Student Mentor

I have had the great opportunity this year to be a mentor to two high school students (from different schools however).  It's so rewarding to see an interest in photography blossoming in someone as young as I was when I became interested.  (Actually, I think I was even younger, but you get my point.) I sort of wish this type of project was around when I was in high school...heck, while I am wishing, I wish there was even a photography class to take when I was in high school, nevermind this project!  Anyway, I was honored to be asked to be a "mentor;" it makes me sound so important, doesn't it? Well, instead I just feel proud  :)

Here are a few pics of my mentoree Ali taking some photos on a random warm day that last week.  This was an exercise in employing the technical aspects of the camera, so Ali could have some practical experience to just simply learn how to use her camera.  I just picked a spot nearby, and we briefly discussed exposure, composition, angles, and all that good stuff.....and then just had at it.

I love that this session involved that shooting even the simplest of things can make for a pretty picture....

Here's Ali....

We had some helpers too...

Right after this was taken, I shouted, "DON'T GO NEAR THE WATER!!"

I love this shot of Avery

Here's me...my friend Michelle loves these boots...

Thank you, Ali!  And best wishes for a bright future in photography!
