I have been married for seven years to my amazing husband Matt. And it was a little over eight years ago that he proposed to me. Though not in the way he had planned. He spent months planning this really special and unique proposal, only for it to be foiled and leaving him to come up with an emergency Plan B. It was supposed to go something like this: invite girlfriend on a fabulous trip to Utah to see the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. Take girlfriend to Legacy Plaza. Encourage girlfriend to stumble across this brick:
And voila! Be engaged! BUT.......it didn't happen that way!!! We went to Salt Lake to see the Olympics, spent a day doing tourist things, and once we arrived at Legacy Plaza, Matt inconspicuously tried to find this brick, but IT. WASN'T. THERE. Gasp!! Come to find out it wouldn't be laid until May, which would be three months too late!! So hence the need for Plan B. (This photo was taken by my mother-in-law, who went on a recent trip to Utah, and shot this picture for us. Proof that it does actually exist.)
This would have been (should have been) such a great moment in the history of unique proposals, had it actually worked out the way Matt had planned. And while it didn't go quite the way he'd hoped, I was so impressed by the innovativeness (is that a word?) of the idea, that it almost didn't matter that we didn't actually get to see our brick in the manner that it was meant to be viewed. Oh, and I have yet to see it. It's just out there, waiting to be seen by ME, Lisa Frechette, it's intended viewee, eight years after the fact......
